Car Maintenance and Care Tips
At Rockville Auto Repair Shop, we care about how much you know about properly maintaining your vehicle. The more you understand your car maintenance, the better we can serve you. For instance, we care for you to learn how to get the most efficient gas mileage, why and how often to change your oil, how your tires wear, and why and how to get the most out of them. If you use these few tips below, you may be able to improve the gas mileage on your car, slow down your tire wear, and understand when and why your car needs to be serviced by a professional mechanic shop such as our own. Call Rockville Auto Repair Shop today! At (301) 720-1883 to schedule your next service appointment.

General Car Maintenance Tips
  • Maintenance check to be scheduled every 15, 30, 60, and 90,000 miles.
  • Brake fluid to change every 30,000 miles.
  • Transmission fluid to change every 30,000 miles for most vehicles
  • Timely Changing of fluids.
  • Antifreeze fluid to change every 30,000 miles.
  • Fuel filter to replace every 2 years or 24,000 miles (whichever comes first).
  • Oil change every 3,000 miles for regular oil, 7,000 miles for synthetic oil.
  • Air filter to replace every 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Your Tire Care and Maintenance
  • Tires rotation every 6,000 miles.
  • Tire pressures to check about once a week. When the pressure on your tire is low, this can affect your fuel economy and also this can cause discomfort when driving. We recommend that you let your tire rest for about three hours after driving to become cold before you measure the pressure accurately.
  • Spare tire to check each month and kept properly inflated and ready for use when needed.
  • Ensure that your wheels are balanced and properly aligned. Wheels not adequately aligned would cause dragging the vehicle on the road, causing premature wear.
  • Ensure your tires pass the penny test. You need to insert a penny into your tire treads. When the top of the coin touches the rubber at the bottom of the groove, and the top of Lincoln's head disappears, your tire is adequate and has pass the test. If you are able to see all of Lincoln's head, the tread has worn down too low, and so, your tires would need to be replaced. When the tread is worn down to 1/16 of an inch, tires need to be replaced.
Gas Mileage Care
  • Every 6 month, you need to change the air filter on your vehicle. This will improve fuel economy and keep the engine running well and smoothly.
  • Use the right manufacturer's recommended grade of oil for your vehicle to improve your car's gas mileage by 1 percent to 2 percent.
  • Use the shade to slow down fuel evaporation from your gas tank.
